CUCUMBER & ZUCCHINI PLANTS INFORMATION

Zucchini and Cucumbers are in. the cucurbit family of plants. Their leaves look similar but they grow very differently.

CUCUMBERS

GENERAL CUCUMBER INFORMATION

  • Marketmore is a popular home-garden variety that matures to 8 to 9 inches long. It’s dark green and slender, maintaining its uniform color even under weather stress. This slicer cucumber is resistant to many diseases and has a sweet, mild flavor.

  • Blocky, medium-length (3-5") fruits are good for fresh eating. They pickle well and have a distinctive, bright emerald green color. Vines are compact, multibranching, and yield well even under stress. Half normal-sized leaves provide easy visibility and harvesting.

  • Especially flavorful when harvested small. Diva's seedless, thin-skinned cukes are distinctly crisp, sweet, and bitter-free. A fantastic variety for the home garden. Harvest at 5–7" sweet, mild flavor. Suseptible to insect pressure more than seeded.

ZUCCHINI

GENERAL ZUCCHINI INFORMATION

Zucchini needs full sun (at least 6 to 8 hours) and consistently moist soil that is high in organic matter.

  • This year we used Desert variety for the green zucchini plants. Extra long and slender zucchini with dark green, almost-black coloring. Single-stemmed plants are sturdy and stems have few spines. Plants produce quickly and have good field resistance to disease.

  • High-yielding plants with an open growth habit making it easy to harvest blemish-free fruit. Excellent disease resistance keeps the plant productive over a long season. Medium-dark yellow color.

  • Traditional Italian heirloom with great flavor. This distinctive zucchini is medium gray-green, with pale green flecks and prominent ribs. Only about half the yield of hybrids, but much better flavor; clearly better textured, nutty, and delicious, raw or cooked. Also a good producer of heavy male blossoms for cooking.
